#1291
An unusually fine gold and silver seal of the round fluted type, mounted on the top with an exquisitely modelled monkey holding in its hands a human skull. The monkey is contemplating the skull and in its animated attitude is a rare example of the silversmith’s art.
In the base is set a white agate which is engraved with the monogram of Alexander Alexandrovitch, or Alexander III, father of Nicholas II, the late Czar of Russia.
Made by Thomas Cole of London.
From the Alexander Palace at Tsarskoye Selo.
Mrs. John L. Pratt
